After defending a thesis on the effect of steroids on brain plasticity and neurogenesis, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Germany to explore the role of transcriptional regulators in brain repair mechanisms, with a particular focus on neural stem cells. Subsequently, within the UMR DéTROI, my research focused on the impact of metabolic disorders on brain homeostasis and regenerative processes (neurogenesis, glial scar formation, microglial cell activation), using zebrafish and mouse models. From a therapeutic perspective, I am interested in the potential of innovative treatments based on high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and molecules derived from Reunion Island’s biodiversity (e.g., polyphenols from medicinal plants) to promote repair processes.

Our research focuses on the mechanisms of brain plasticity (neurogenesis and brain repair) and how these processes are disrupted in conditions of metabolic dysfunction, such as diabetes and/or obesity. Zebrafish are remarkable in that their adult brains maintain a high density of highly active neural stem cells, which support significant cerebral plasticity and enable them to repair their brain after large-scale lesions. Understanding the pathways and mechanisms involved in brain repair in zebrafish could help develop new therapies to enhance brain repair in humans, where no effective treatments currently exist to promote brain repair.
